Neuraspective™
EMC World 2014 was held at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas from May 5-8, 2014. This year, the theme has evolved to “Redefine”. Neuralytix believes that this year, above all other years, EMC’s messaging for the year ahead (and beyond) represented the most contemporary, relevant and progressive message from any technology company today.
Overall, the messaging at EMC World 2014 focused on the data-centered data center (a term that was introduced to Neuralytix by one of our Clients, Caringo, and one that Neuralytix will be using frequently moving forward).
Key Findings
Embracing of the reality that in today’s information business, it is not about saving costs, but generating growth.
EMC’s ViPR software-defined storage offering is maturing and adoption is accelerating.
EMC has adopted and promotes a much more inclusive approach to its competitors.
EMC’s elastic cloud storage fills a necessary gap between all cloud and all on-premise – reinforcing EMC’s message around hybrid cloud.
Overview
As enterprise cloud file sharing applications evolve as collaboration platforms, they are taking on many of the best features of other collaboration applications. These include:
• Enterprise social networks
• Enterprise content management
• Digital asset management
• Enterprise search
In addition, consumerization is exerting a heavy influence on enterprise cloud file sharing products, leading to increased automation of the more irritating but necessary functions of managing documents and other types of content, such as check-in and check-out.
Executive Summary
Cloud file sharing services have become common consumer and SMB tools. Large enterprises, however, have been wary of these products, because they have not met security and access control requirements. A new generation of enterprise cloud file sharing products is causing IT departments to feel less skittish about these services. These products go beyond simple sync and share and meet the needs of large enterprises.
Some new features that encourage larger enterprises to adopt these services are:
• Rules-based synchronization.
• Hybrid cloud and on-premise storage.
• Management of local copies of documents.
• More mature sharing and access controls.
• Safe sharing outside the company network.
Data self-service is an emerging trend in data delivery that promises to increase business agility by enabling end-users to get the data they need when they need it without having to manage IT bottlenecks.
